We won't invade. American leaders are cowards and now the American people won't sign up to die in Israel's war. So, we will just bomb them. We may even use low yield nuclear weapons but we won't invade.
America is absolutely the worse kind of super power. An ideological evangelist state that grew up in an extremely safe neighborhood where it never had any real threats. Such an environment giving both an extreme amount of immunity from the consequences of our actions and an appalling lack of a cultural understanding of war one gets from the cultural memory of soldiers who go off to fight a war only to come home to their burnt out city and slaughtered family.
We need to fall apart before we.destroy the world.
Probably dusting off the archives of Israel’s 1981 attack on the Osirak reactor. I imagine pentagon planning is predicated on flawed assumptions based on Israeli success with exploding pagers and unhindered AirPower over weak opponents. The expectations may be of a rapid series of strikes on air defences and nuclear research and production facilities - but I wonder how many of these planners are cautioning against such rosy assumptions.
I detect a strong element of hubris and inflated sense of technological and military supremacy.
Iranian retaliation against oil facilities on the other side of the gulf could plunge the region and the world energy market into the abyss. There is the ominous prospect of yet another US calamity in the Middle East. I’m deeply troubled by all this, but there are already signs that it’s progressed from planning to staging.
Interesting article. Thanks for looking into it. Are aircraft an option for logistics, or is it still limited? Also is there a rail network that could be used?
Aircraft lift is very limited (the entire USAF can lift about 80% of 1 train's worth of supplies at a time.
There is a rail network in Iran that could be used, though the US military has always been very truck based for tactical and operational level logisitics.
